Day 2

Sunday, October 01, 2006

I take a look on eBay for rear wheels that are compatible. I find one that is PERFECT, except that it is located in England and is too costly to ship for my budget. The front wheel that came with the bike has a Deore XT hub on a nice double-walled rim, and I would like to pick up something comparable. There is nothing else on eBay in Canada meeting that description as well as being within my price range. No bike shops are open today, so I have to wait until tomorrow (and until my back spasms hopefully subside) to pick up parts. I measure and inspect and make a shopping list:

2 brake cables

2 derailleur cables

4’ of brake cable housing (I measure what is existing and record it)

0’ of derailleur housing (I plan to re-use what is there, or if I have to, some from my used pile)

2 pairs of brake pads, specific to V-brakes

1 seat post (I take out my measuring tape and guess it has a diametre of 27 or 27.2 mm)

1 bicycle chain (the crank says “IG CHAIN ONLY” and the shifter is an 8 speed)

1 pair of bicycle grips

Questions to ask:

-Does the bike shop service suspension forks?

-Do you know if you have to take the shifters apart to replace the cable?
